Chiropractic & Acupuncture: The 1-2 Punch for Clearing Skin Conditions
Punch #1: Chiropractic
It may sound strange that chiropractic care would be able to address a skin condition. Usually, when you think of chiropractic, back pain, neck pain and headache relief come to mind; however, the core of what chiropractic does may affect other disorders, such as eczema. Put simply, skin reflects the gut. If your gut’s not clear it’s going to show up in your skin as it’s the largest organ of your body. Many people with eczema and other skin issues take a bandage approach by putting creams and lotions on the outside. Instead, we use chiropractic to offer natural healing from the inside out. By adjusting the vertebrae and aligning it to its proper state of being, the nervous system may improve, which in turn will boost the body’s immune system. A happy side effect of Chiropractic Care. Once the immune system is functioning at a high level, then eczema may be reduced, and in some cases, cleared away completely.
Punch #2 Acupuncture
For thousands of years, traditional Chinese medicine has used acupuncture to treat a variety of symptoms from internal health problems to skin disorders, such as eczema, acne, psoriasis, alopecia and others. Many practitioners today continue to apply these methods to treat their patients who prefer a less invasive and non-chemical treatment.
For skin disorders, acupuncture points are stimulated along the arms, legs and torso. The licensed acupuncturist uses fine high-grade surgical steel needles, which are used only once, to stimulate those acupuncture points. The needles may remain from 10 minutes to one hour, depending on the desired effect.
DID YOU KNOW Research has shown that acupuncture can induce beneficial changes in the levels of neurotransmitters like serotonin, substance-P, endorphins, and enkephalins in patients with pain and emotional disturbances.
The role of stress is important in the cause of allergy-related skin disorders and their tendency for re-occurrence. Acupuncture is a valuable tool in the treatment of atopic dermatitis because it reduces a patient’s level of stress.
There are multiple studies on dermatological conditions showing reduction in itch sensation through the stimulation of certain acupuncture points. One important point is on the Large Intestine channel, this is very effective in clearing heat, which is why it is used in cases of itchy, dry, and scaly inflamed skin conditions.
Can I try just Acupuncture OR Chiropractic?
Yes, although we find the best results come from the combined approach, a patient can choose to try acupuncture without needing to incorporate chiropractic. OR visa versa a patient can try chiropractic without having to do acupuncture.
How many sessions are needed?
It depends on the conditions treated. Many patients see results after just one treatment. A treatment plan and length of care will be discussed during the first visit.
Can I be treated if I am having a skin flare up?
YES! This is one of the best times to get in.
Will this cure my skin condition?
It is important to note that there is no scientific cure for some skin conditions. We are treating the symptoms of the skin conditions naturally.
My child is the one with skin problem, is Acupuncture safe for them?
YES, many kids suffer with the symptoms of skin conditions. We are lucky to have our licensed acupuncturist on staff that has years of pediatric experience.
